Collaboration of the Year (2007) - The Isthmus

The Worst Band Names Of '07 (2007) - The Onion

Name that band! The stories behind Madison's strangest pop monikers - The Isthmus

Two electric guitars and one bass guitar utilizing distortion and delay effects, complemented by ginormo drums, freaky keyboards and childlike vocals.

Pete had song ideas that didn't quite fit with The Skintones robust sound. Tony, in his usual sensitive fashion, described the ideas as being, "quite gay." What to do? Long story short, Whore du Jour! The band name was inspired by a line from the song "Copafeelia" by Imperial Teen.

Blurb du Jour

Whore du Jour open the show with a catchy, distorted, garage-electronica sound. Having been voted Madison's best collaboration (by the Isthmus) and worst band name (by the Onion) in 2007, these guys and gals are definitely onto something. read more

Whore du Jour to Open for The Go-Go's

Madison, Wisconsin's "supergroup" Whore du Jour will be opening two dates on the upcoming Go-Go's tour:
Wednesday, January 30th at the House of Blues in Chicago
Thursday, January 31st at Ameristar Casino in St. Louis

Jane Wiedlin, guitarist and songwriter for iconic 80’s all-girl punk band the Go-Go's, has taken special interest in Whore du Jour, acting as mentor, muse and producer on the band’s virgin release, "Back to School ."

Wiedlin has joined forces with the Whores, and has the avant-garage band backing her on an upcoming album. Whores Travis Kasperbauer and Pete Ress met Wiedlin in June, 2007 in Sturgeon Bay (Wis.) during the Steel Bridge SongFest hosted by Jackson Browne and Timbuk 3's Pat MacDonald.

Musicians from some of Madison's favorite bands (The Skintones, Brainerd, Screaming Cyn Cyn and the Pons, Cats Not Dogs) came together in January of 2007 to form Whore du Jour. Most were looking for something a little different, and lucky for us, they found it.

The local press has been kind (sort of) to Whore du Jour in its infant year. The band was named "Best Collaboration of 2007" by The Isthmus (Madison, Wis.) and given the (dubious) honor of "Worst Band Name of 2007" by The Onion (Madison, Wis.).

Having been compared to everyone from The Pixies to Massive Attack, Whore du Jour brings a fresh, yet familiar feel to the alternaindiepop scene. The band utilizes two electric guitars and one bass guitar (not short on distortion and delay) complemented by ginormo drums, freaky keyboards and childlike vocals.

Other upcoming dates include:
Thursday, January 17th at Martyr's in Chicago
Friday, February 15th at the Abbey Pub in Chicago
Thursday, February 28th at High Noon Saloon in Madison

"It's basically THE supergroup of Madison. It's like a blend of mellower Skintones with some twang but still chuggy guitar. Loren's got a really powerful voice. They cover one song as of right now, "Run Like Hell," and it's SPOT on. " more

(Whores) Travis Kasperbauer and Pete Ress met (Jane) Wiedlin this June in Sturgeon Bay during the Steel Bridge SongFest, swiftly developing a collaboration that includes not only a series of live performances this summer, but plans for assisting one another with recording their upcoming albums. more

The Go-Go who co-wrote "Our Lips Are Sealed" and "Vacation" is joining forces with a Madison band. Jane Wiedlin, has asked the Madison avant-garage band Whore du Jour to back her on an upcoming album. And she's agreed to produce their next CD. more

Jane Wiedlin from the seminal '80s all-girl punk band the Go Go's will also be appearing at the High Noon tonight, performing Go Go's songs with Madison's own Whore du Jour as her backing band, and also some songs that she and the band wrote together. more

Recording the first album:

Whore du Jour has now begun the joyous and laborious process of recording our first album. Travis K. and Todd O. have relocated Master Blaster Studios, and the band, to an abandoned worm farm somewhere in Sweden. They will be manipulating the knobs while simultaneously manipulating the band members. Yes, Whore du Jour is quite aware of the games Travis and Todd like to play, but we go along knowing that they use their powers for good rather than evil.

As we work through the album, we will periodically add rough mixes to this site so all of you can monitor our progress; or lack thereof. "DEEP SEA DIVER" is our next unpolished offering. After you take a listen, we would appreciate your feedback. Be a part of the solution, as well as the problem. Yeah...that really sucked, but feel free to chime in with your thoughts about the songs anyway. I'm sure I'll regret this request, but what the fruck, right?

So stay tuned for more updates as well as your STD test results. Hopefully, it really is just a cold sore.
